Many racial and ethnic minority individuals lack equitable access to safe housing compared to their white counterparts, which has been exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic. Although many housing laws seem race neutral, when enforced, they disproportionately harm racial and ethnic minority groups. Focusing on St. Louis, Detroit, and Columbus, this conference will discuss requirements of eviction and illegal lockout laws, whether the law is being equitably enforced, and how it impacts racial and ethnic minority individuals.
