Michigan Passes Law Letting Homeowners Remove Racist Language From Their Deeds

Street Democracy helped draft the legislation in 2019; it became law in December 2022.

In 2019, Charles Hobbs worked with then-Michigan State Representative Sarah Anthony to draft legislation that empower individuals and neighborhood associations to remove the offending language in 2019.

Persistent advocacy and Representative Anthony's steadfast support ultimately led to passage of the HB4416 (2021) into law on December 13, 2022.
