One year after reopening, Street Outreach Court Detroit was back in growth mode. Graduates climbed from 118 to 160, and cases closed more than doubled—from 1,034 to 2,119. The two-year pause didn't slow the program down. If anything, it came back hungry.
And the model was spreading. In 2019, Street Democracy provided technical assistance to Colorado Springs, CO and Flint, MI with support from the ABA Commission on Homelessness and Poverty. Colorado Springs opened their homeless court that same year. Flint presented to the Genesee County legal and homeless provider community in June and was on track to open in 2020. What works in Detroit doesn't have to stay in Detroit.
