Functional Sentencing

A sentencing model that helps people exit poverty and leave the criminal justice system for good.

Functional Sentencing turns the sentencing process into an opportunity to help people exit poverty and leave the criminal justice system for good. In lieu of fines, court-based community service, or jail time, defendants are offered the chance to pursue community resources that can improve their lives, things like enrolling in a GED course, starting job training, or getting a medical check-up.
